Open Rehearsal: Music and Theatre's Perfectly Dramatic Marriage
Director Mary Ann Tear and L'arietta's Co-Artistic Director Akiko Otao will navigate students and enthusiasts on how theatre and music magically collides in this 1-hour open rehearsal.
This multi-disciplinary art form is much more than the music and the singing; acting and movement bring the story to life. Opera is about listening, seeing, and being emotionally engaged. While the story may be set in a different time, it is still relevant because we see universal themes and characters that resonate with us.
We will explore how the music serves the drama, how to breathe life into the characters and the stories through clear physicalization of intentions. Musical fundamentals of opera (i.e. what is the difference between an aria and a recitative), historical musical references, use of motifs and other musical device to aid the drama will also be discovered. Not to mention there will be a sneak preview of the show starring some of the best singers on this island!
Featuring: Figaro's Last Hangover and Figaro & The Zombie Apocalypse by the exciting young New York City based composer, Patrick Soluri.
“Patrick Soluri has written a powerful score - beautifully played and filled with lush strings – that builds to a blazing ending…” -DC Metro Theater Arts
Appropriate for IGCSE and IB music and/or drama students as well as anyone interested in learning more about opera!
